Oct. 2011 10th Armored Division Tour Cancelled

Effective 30 July, after a valiant recruitment effort, MilSpec Tours with my agreement has canceled the 2-13 October, 2011 10th Armored Division Pilgrimage Battlefield Tour across Europe.  Only a handful of adventuresome folks had registered for it.  Unfortunately it was far too small of a group of participants  to make this tour viable.  I would contribute this in part to our country's current economic decline and to a very limited contact base we had to work with.  A direct mailing promoting the tour was sent to 375 people.  Other promotions included a few select websites and newsletters. The mailing targeted the memberships of the 10th Armored Division Veterans Western Chapter and the 609th Tank Destroyer Battalion Association.  Also included were members of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bugle that listed a connection to the 10th Armored and a contact list that 10th Armored Historian Howard Liddic maintains.  Prior to the 2006/7 dissolution of the Tenth Armored Division Veterans Association a tour such has this might have succeeded due to an approximate membership of 2,500 ( from a 1998 directory).  Simply put, just a larger group of  potential tour participants to draw from.

MilSpec Tours may offer another 10th Armored Division related tour in the future.   Perhaps a broader scope tour of sites from Bastogne to Berchtesgaden that would relate to the many divisions that fought across central Europe.
From time to time visit their website at GoMilSpec.com to see what develops for 2012.

I would encourage you to join the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Its a growing organization that shares a common bond with the 10th Armored.  As a member  you will receive their quarterly publication, The Bulge Bugles. It contains stories about the battle written by veterans, and updates on member activities such as reunions and chapter activities. You will be joining a network of Veterans, their families and friends, and history enthusiasts, all with a shared interest in keeping connected, and keeping the legacy of these brave service men and women for future generations. Review their new and expanded website at http://www.veteransofthebattleofthebulge.org/vbob/

Thank you for your interest,
Duayne Forsberg
Nephew of 1st Lt. William Fudge, 609th Tank Destroyer Battalion / 10th Armored Division

We track and commemorate the Battle Route of the Tenth Armored Division across Europe. This tour is primarily for Veterans and their families, but it is also for today’s younger generations who want to learn about the World War II military achievements of the Tiger soldiers of the 10th Armored Division.

After our successful 94th Infantry Division Saar-Moselle Triangle Tour last year, Duayne Forsberg, whose 10th Armored Division uncle was killed in the ferocious battle of the Crailsheim Salient, asked me if a 10th Armored Division pilgrimage tour would be possible. It will cover not only the Saar-Moselle Triangle, but also Mars La Tour, Metz and its fortresses, the Battle of the Bulge, the pursuit to the Rhine, Heilbronn and the Crailsheim Salient and the end of the war in Bavaria and Austria. Won’t you join us as we honor Duayne’s uncle and the other heroes of the 10th Armored Division, following the battle route of the 10th and commemorating the achievements of those men almost seven decades ago.
Patrick Hinchy, 10th Armored Division Tour Director
